FORWARD

Information listed here has been obtained by members of the Larimer County Genealogical Society.    They copied the original handwritten records of 1862-1872 in the County Courthouse.    In many cases the handwriting is nearly illegible and all possible spellings should be checked as well as obtaining a copy of the original from the County Clerk whenever possible.

We have included both Grantor and Grantee indexes.    The Grantor is the party selling and the Grantee is the party buying the property.

Living here in Larimer County in the 1980's one would not think of this as a booming mining area, however, when checking the records, there are 84 mining claims listed for December of 1864.

Another surprising fact for frontier times is the number of women who owned property in their own right.

Every page of this index contains names that are familiar to Larimer County residents because these names are now the names of streets, schools, and canyon areas.

This project has been a most interesting one for our members who did the work, and we hope everyone who reads it will gain from it.

Our special thanks for their time and effort in copying the records go to Beverly Bowen, Lola Doane, Karl and Virgina Manke, Marilyn Rudd, Lottie Vandergaw, Irene Whedbee, Kathy Williamson, past president of Larimer County Genealogical Society, whose idea the project was and who worked so hard pursuing it, Betty Wickam and Jackie Wright. Our typists were Helen McClure and Kathryn VanStone.   All of these people and our Society made this project possible.
