The Larimer County Genealogical Society is a wonderful organization with many dedicated volunteers that contribute their time to promote its mission. If you have some free time and would like to contribute, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities for members of the Society.
Available Opportunities
Genealogy Helpers
Volunteers are needed to assist with our society’s free genealogy help on Thursday afternoons from 1-3 pm at both the Fort Collins Old Town and Loveland libraries.
Most volunteers sign up for one two-hour shift per month. A basic understanding of genealogy research and using various genealogy websites such as ancestry.com and familysearch.org is needed.
If interested, you can shadow in either library for a week or two to see if this is something you want to do. Contact Kathy Patrick at [email protected] for the Fort Collins library or Lisa Vogele at [email protected] for the Loveland library.volunteer
Class Instructor
If you were a school teacher or an instructor and have an interest in teaching classes on a Saturday at either Loveland or Harmony libraries, please contact Bob Larson at [email protected]. Duties would start in March 2025!
LCGS Publicity Assistant
We need a Publicity Assistant volunteer for creating our website events and weekly emails. The assistant will report to the Publicity Chair Bruce Vigneault with training from Bruce or our Web Committee Chair Bob Larson.
The Publicity Assistant updates the website either every week or monthly with all the latest events provided by the program chair for our monthly events, info by each study group leader, and the education chair for our annual classes. There is a website template to complete for each event that takes about 30 minutes to complete on the website events. Besides the event description, we require the presenter’s photo and their bio and the registration template. The events can be scheduled in advance in days or weeks. Website training will be provided! A background in word processing is all that is required! Duties would start on January 1.
In addition, there are two emails to be sent to our members and visitors on a weekly basis of all events using our Mail Chimp Email app that has a email template to complete. These can be scheduled weeks in advance providing all the necessary info is included or can be done the Saturday before the weekly email is sent. The average weekly event can be replicated with updates can take up to 30 minutes to sometimes one hour. The monthly programs will include the speaker’s photo and handout (to be uploaded to Mail Chimp), then inserted into the email using a link. Email training will be provided! A background in word processing is all that is required! Duties would start on January 1.
There are two other publicity helpers that create the bi-monthly newsletter and the monthly program video.
If you feel you have the background skills to provide the website or email content, please contact our Volunteer Committee Stacey Rehbein at [email protected] or Kimberly Campbell at [email protected].
Contact our Volunteer Coordinator Stacey Rehbein at email: [email protected] or President Larry Doyle at email: [email protected], if you have interest in becoming a volunteer!
