Family History Fair at LDS Church in Loveland

Mark your calendars for September 7 from 10 am to 2 pm!

Larimer County Genealogical Society and the LDS Family Search Center in Loveland will be providing several classes at the Family History Fair to be held at the LDS Church on W 28th Street in Loveland.

The fair will include several vendors including our society on genealogy and family history. Plus several classes on DNA and technology as used in genealogy research will be provided.

Class: Intro to Genetic Genealogy
DNA expert Glenn York will be providing a class on “Introduction to Genetic Genealogy.” Glenn will explain how DNA is used for genealogy research, the three different types of DNA tests, and the recommended DNA testing labs and costs.

Speaker Profile
Glenn York is an avid genealogist with decades of research experience at numerous facilities across the United States. Glenn began researching by pouring over microfilm at the National Archives and reading books at the Library of Congress while living in the Washington DC area.

Over the years, Glenn has gained extensive experience in genetic genealogy, and worked with tests from all major DNA testing companies and many third party analysis tools. He did his first DNA test for genealogy in 2005, and currently manages DNA tests of over 30 family members using all the major DNA testing companies.

Glenn’s formal education includes a bachelor’s degree in Social Science and a master’s degree in Telecommunications. He has completed over a dozen courses at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG) and Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburg (GRIP) and has participated in many genealogy conferences and seminars.

Glenn is a past president of the Larimer County Genealogical Society and is the delegate for the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies to the National Genealogical Society. He is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, National Genealogical Society, Genealogical Speakers Guild, and many other genealogical and historical societies.

Glenn facilitates monthly DNA study groups for two area genealogical societies, teaches genealogy classes, and volunteers at a local library to help people with genealogy research. Glenn has assisted others in discovering their biological families through his understanding of genetic genealogy. He is also a volunteer administrator for the Bates surname, Raley surname, and Swedish Colonial Society DNA projects.

Class: Using Technology in Your Genealogy Research
Education Chair Bob Larson will be presenting a class on “Using Technology for Your Genealogy Research.” Bob will provide examples of using different technologies such as the three popular genealogy databases, Ancestry.com Familysearh.org, and MyHeritage.com and many others, using artificial intelligence in your research, and joining different study groups at his society in researching your genealogy and family history!

Speaker Profile
Robert (Bob) Larson, MBA, BSM & ASEE, is the Education Chair, instructor, library volunteer, and past president for Larimer County Genealogical Society besides being a past speaker at different societies across Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming. He has been researching his genealogy and family history for over 25 years and authored his family history book on 125 relatives in 2007 with the help of 30 cousins. Bob was also the webinar chair and past president of the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies in Denver.
