Class Description
Now that you’ve looked at basic records such as the census and vital records, are you wondering what to do next? Intermediate Genealogy Part One will help you advance beyond these basic records. This Part One class will teach you how to access and use the following records in depth: census records, church and government vital records, cemetery records, military records, and newspaper/obits in depth. Learn new terms such as enumerator, census schedules, baptisms vs birth, DD214, MOS, service #, sources, obits, and other esoteric terms that tend to confuse novice record users and where to find these records.
This FREE three-hour class will provide clues you’ve been looking for to take your family history to the next level. Plus, we will review the databases available at your library and your home. Handouts will be available at the class!
Be sure to register for Intermediate Genealogy Part Two on May 2nd at the Harmony Library! That class will include Directories, Land Records, Passenger & Naturalization Records, Court Records, Sources, and Lineage & Ethnic Societies in our area.
Speaker Profile
Education Chair Bob Larson
Robert (Bob) Larson is the Education Chair, a certified instructor, technology study group leader, library volunteer, past Family Tree Maker software instructor plus past president for
Larimer County Genealogical Society and past speaker at different societies across Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming. He also teaches genealogy classes at CSU/Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Fort Collins. Bob is also the Webinar Chair and past president of the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies in Denver. He has been researching genealogy for over 25 years.
Bob has degrees in electronics engineering, marketing, and an Exec MBA plus computer programming certificates. He also has been studying AI methods since early 2025 using Microsoft Copilot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and CANVA app to produce genealogy documents and presentations. He published his first family history 210-page book, “The Coffin-Pierson Legacy” in 2007, comprised of six generations with the help of 30 cousins.
Everyone interested in genealogy or family history is welcome to attend our free online classes!
Registered attendees will receive handouts and the slide presentation and the Zoom info will be sent via email to all registered attendees with the Zoom info the evening before the class.
