LCGS One-on-One Sessions

March 22, 2024

Do you have a brick wall in your genealogy? Are you beginning a new area of research and wondering what resources might be available? Are you overwhelmed by choices when it comes to pay-for-view genealogical resources?

If you need answers to any of these questions, Larimer County Genealogical Society can help. Every Thursday afternoon (except major holidays) LCGS holds one-on-one sessions at two locations in Larimer County. Sessions are held at the Old Town branch of the Poudre River Public District in Old Town Fort Collins and at the Loveland Library in Loveland. Sessions run from one to three at each location. All of them are free.

Sessions at both libraries are drop-in. No reservations required. There will be at least one experienced volunteer at each location to help answer your questions. These volunteers don’t promise to solve all your genealogical puzzles, but they will provide you with a new perspective – hopefully, one you haven’t considered in the past.

These one-on-one sessions tend to be underutilized. Typically, only one or two visitors show up each week. Wait times are usually short. While you wait, you’re welcome to listen in on other questions. You may be surprised to find that their questions are nearly the same as yours. You may even be able to add your experiences to the discussion.

I’ve volunteered for years at these sessions. Like all the volunteers in this program, I’m an experienced genealogist. That certainly doesn’t mean I have expertise in all facets of genealogy. Luckily, every week there is a different volunteer at the library. Each of us has our own strengths and areas of interest. Guests who return multiple times get the benefit of several different viewpoints.

If you’ve been thinking that you could use some help with an aspect of genealogy, this is your chance to get it. You don’t have to commit to a specific time, and the price couldn’t be better. Another Thursday is coming up soon. Why not spend part of it getting some help with your genealogy.
